How many calories are burned by having sex?
When we think of physical activity, running, Pilates, high-intensity workouts or perhaps team sports come to mind.
** How to get fit by having sex **
Hardly ever, however, when we think of how to burn calories do we think of sex.
And instead an exercise session between the sheets might be the most fun (certainly most loved) way when it comes to working up a sweat.

But can sex be considered a real physical workout? Not really.
Thinking of sex as a form of exercise is an exaggeration. It certainly has a variety of physical benefits, and it certainly helps to keep fit, but the caloric expenditure from sex is not as high as many people think.

Men burn more calories than women
Not surprisingly, several studies have been published in recent years that aimed to calculate how many calories are burned during sex.
One of the most recent, from the University of Quebec in Montreal, looked at 21 heterosexual couples in their early twenties. The researchers tracked energy expenditure during exercise and sexual activity.

Obviously, there is no absolute formula that is universally valid, but the results showed that women, during an average 24-minute relationship, burn about 70 calories (3.1 calories per minute), while men burn about 100 calories (4.2 calories per minute).
Not as many as you were hoping for? Don’t worry, there are a couple of ways to increase calorie consumption in the bedroom.
For example, kissing your partner for half an hour can burn up to 230 calories, while having oral sex for the same amount of time up to 100 calories.
In addition, massaging one’s partner can consume about 80 calories per hour, and achieving an orgasm can burn an extra 60 calories.

But what most influences the amount of calories consumed during sex is the position.
For example, women can burn up to 122 calories per half hour if they stand on top, and about 116 calories if they hold their legs up during intercourse.
